On (or not) Facebook
Why Facebook disappoints me and what I'm doing about it
I posted this on Facebook, and it describes how I feel about Facebook these days (in a word: disappointed).
I don't post much on FB these days other than regarding my musical indulgence each Thursday, the egotistically-named Keith's Music Box.
I miss the old Facebook. The one full of friends near and distant in both the emotional and geographic sense. These days it's full of adverts and (most of) the friends seem absent. One day things will coalesce and there will be another place for us to chat about how good was in the olden days and to reflect that, actually, it's pretty good now, too.
A friend - one of those that I've never met but I know a little from FB - writes every day about life. (You know who you are!). I'm inspired by that. I'm looking at how I can do that, but I don't want to do it on Facebook. But I'll find a way.
And so this is Christmas (could be a good opening line for a song, eh?). The picture is "Winter of ’41" by Philip E West. The description: "Heavy snow during the winter of 1941 sometimes kept pilots and their aircraft grounded including Spitfire ‘G’ George assigned to Sqn. Ldr. Geoffrey ‘Boy’ Wellum. Just one of the many pilots grateful to the skill and determination of the ground crews who worked in challenging weather conditions to prepare their aircraft to help make sure they came home safely."
I posted it only because I like it (is there ever a better reason?). A Spitfire, as British as a Bulldog and the epitome of the Battle of Britain when The Few showed The Others that we were not to be trifled with. Snow, which still confers a sense of wonder. A misty sun, and a sense that everything will be alright in the end.
Whatever you're doing; whatever you believe about Christmas; however well (or not) you know me; whatever I mean to you: best wishes for the last week of 2024.
2025 will have some challenges, but it will also hold joy. Let's focus on the joy.
